WPS Approved Social Enterprise Member

On 18 September 2017, WPS became a Social Enterprise Supporting Member.

Only businesses set up to positively change the world can become members. Like traditional businesses they aim to make a profit, but it’s what they do with their profits that sets them apart – reinvesting or donating them to create positive social change.

Construction, Demolition and Refurbishment accounts for around 100 million tonnes of waste in the UK each year. WPS, renowned for Waste Management Compliance since 2009, offers waste management and environmental management consultancy services dedicated to tackling this environmentally damaging issue.

Some of WPS’ clients have (with WPS’ assistance) reduced their construction site waste by more than 10,000 tonnes each year, which in turn saves them approximately £1,000,000 each year.  WPS also help companies manage the use of energy, with a focus on energy savings, to improve their carbon footprint.

To support its social enterprise goal, WPS has reinvested its profits in the development of a software compliance tool, SitePlan, to help their clients easily self-manage their waste and energy use.

Gary Dingwall, Clarke Projects Ltd said: “We are currently using SitePlan to manage the SWMPs for 7 projects. For us it provides the ideal solution for producing Site Waste Management Plans. It is so easy to use we can do the work in-house very cost effectively. We like that it is online and Plans can be accessed from anywhere, or we can produce a pdf report and email it to whoever we need to, e.g. a CODE Assessor or a Planning Department. It also ensures that our Duty Of Care responsibilities are satisfied.”

Lara Ayris, founder of WPS, said: “Becoming a Social Enterprise member reinforces our commitment to making positive changes to our environment by helping our construction clients reduce their waste and carbon footprint.  We are also investing in the local community by offering an apprenticeship programme and sponsoring Northampton Outlaws, RFC, a local ‘All Inclusive’ rugby team, who are shortlisted for the local ‘Community Team of the Year’ awards.

With an ever-expanding membership of well over a thousand, Social Enterprise UK is the largest social enterprise network in the UK. From building markets for social enterprises to large scale public facing campaigns, such as Social Saturday, it exists to amplify the voice of its members and ensure social enterprise is on the radars of decision makers across many business sectors. As well as operating nationally, Social Enterprise UK has a strong regional presence in communities through its Social Enterprise Places Programme.
