Waste Classification

Waste Classification is an important step in making your business safe and legal. Any waste you dispose of will need proper classification. We can help with this process.

Waste Classification Services refer to specialised services offered to help organisations properly classify and manage their waste materials. Waste classification involves determining the type, composition, and potential hazards of waste, which is crucial for appropriate handling, storage, transportation, and disposal. Waste classification ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and reduces the risk of environmental contamination and health hazards.

Waste generated from your projects either from a development or generally clearing a site that is to be disposed of, will need to be classified before it can go into the waste chain.

There are 3 main types that waste is classified as. These are:

  • Inert
  • Hazardous
  • Non Hazardous

In addition, a more specific classification, using the EWC (European Code of Wastes) is needed by the Environment Agency so all waste is properly and legally disposed of. If this isn’t fulfilled, you open yourself up to liability and legal action.

Some of the main responsibilities that you have when classifying your waste are:

  • Ensuring your waste is classified properly
  • Making sure that the waste from your site is taken by a licensed carrier and taken to a licensed facility
  • Various accurate records are kept, including Carrier Registration Numbers, Waste Transfer Note Numbers and Consignment Note Numbers as applicable.
